Welcome to our interview series, where we shed a spotlight on the Rev-celerator Ambassadors who are shaping the future of finance — while mentoring the next generation of talent.
We’ll explore how career paths on the Dream Team are rarely linear, but always authentic and inspiring. In this interview, you’ll get to know Akshat Mittal, General Manager, Core Payments.
Tell us about your role at Revolut?
As the General Manager of the Core Payments department, I'm responsible for the product and P&L of all domestic and cross-border bank transfers going in and out of Revolut.
My work involves launching new methods of payments for Revolut customers, and improving the quality of existing payment methods.
How does the career you wanted to pursue as a grad align with where you are today?
I always wanted to work in fast-moving companies that are working on interesting, novel problems. That’s why I have spent a considerable part of my career in startups. This eventually led me to join Revolut.
You’re based in the UK, but you’ve also had experience as both a student and employee in India. Could you share why it’s such an exciting location for early-career talent?

This sector holds special promise for early-career talent, since it's a rapidly changing industry, so there are always new things to learn and space for young people to innovate.
You're an early-career mentor at Revolut. What do you most enjoy about your work with interns and grads?
The best part of working with interns and grads is the speed at which they learn the domain, and the element of pleasant surprise when they start suggesting ideas and improvements. It provides me with the energy and motivation to keep learning and pushing harder.
What makes the Rev-celerator Internship and Graduate Programmes such empowering career launchpads?

That’s why so many ex-Revoluters have become founders. Also, Revolut rewards exceptional talent, so the best and brightest folks in the programme would get a disproportionate boost in their careers, compared to many other places.
Do you have any advice for students and grads who are job searching?
Try to prioritise your learning in the job over other aspects, such as focusing only on money or brand name. While this is true for all parts of a professional career, it's especially important in the early stages of your career, since those are foundational years.
