A great career path isn’t always a straight line, it’s built on bold choices, relentless curiosity, and a passion for people. Few leaders embody this better than Paroma Chatterjee, CEO of Revolut India, who left the security of traditional banking to pioneer fintech in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

In this exclusive conversation, Paroma shares her inspiring career journey, the principles that guide her, and why now is the perfect time for early career talent to launch their own bold careers at Revolut.

What’s it like to be at the helm of Revolut in a market as fast-paced and dynamic as India?

Exhilarating. India is unlike any other market, 1.6 billion people, multiple languages, cultures, and priorities. It’s often called a subcontinent, and rightly so. At the same time, India has become the global epicenter of digital adoption. Today, 87% of Indians use some form of fintech, with innovations like UPI enabling real-time payments for half a billion people.

To bring Revolut into this landscape is a privilege. Even before launch, we already have over 350,000 people on our waitlist, the excitement is palpable.

What also excites me is the energy of our team. India is now home to our tech hub and around 35% of our global workforce. Each day is different: one day I’m strategising for hypergrowth, the next localising a global super app, the next preparing for scale. My role demands respect for consumers, regulations, and constant learning, and that’s what gets me out of bed every morning.

How does the career you wanted as a grad align with where you are today?

My career has been anything but linear. If there’s one thread, it’s curiosity. From the start, I’ve chosen roles that sparked my curiosity, gave me real problems to solve, and allowed me to build things with impact. That approach has taken me across different industries, but always with purpose.

While I didn’t imagine myself in fintech when I was in college, I knew I wanted to solve complex problems. That mindset, more than any degree, has defined my career.

What do you most enjoy about working with early career talent?

Their fearless energy. Young talent comes in questioning the status quo, asking “why” and “why not.” That’s incredibly powerful.

Mentoring them is also a two-way street. I share perspective and experience, but they often open my eyes to new ways of looking at problems. I love watching their confidence grow as they present bold ideas and get recognised for them. It’s like watching a bud blossom.

At Revolut, growth is based on merit, not years of experience. Many of our senior leaders are young, proof that talent and impact drive careers here.

Why is Revolut such an exciting place to launch a career in fintech?

Where else can you get a front-row seat to building a financial super app from the ground up, in one of the world’s most exciting markets?

At Revolut, you’re thrown into the deep end from day one. You’re given real, tangible problems to solve, not tasks that sit on the sidelines. And because our work is global, the impact of what you do is visible beyond one country. Nobody is a spectator here; everyone is a builder.

What sets the Rev-celerator Internship and Graduate Programmes apart as career springboards?

We don’t believe in interns fetching coffee. From day one, you’re integrated into a team and given live projects with real impact. You’ll learn the nuts and bolts of fintech, one of the most exciting industries in the world, while being mentored by people who’ve risen quickly themselves.

Unlike other companies, you’ll also get cross-functional exposure, structured learning modules, and the chance to work on products that matter. The programmes are designed for people who want fast-track growth and are ready to rise to the challenge. Many of our brightest stars started their journeys as interns or grads.

What’s next for Revolut in India, and why is it such an exciting environment for grads?

We’re just getting started. India is the next frontier in Revolut’s global growth, and being part of this launch is a once-in-a-career opportunity. We’re hiring Operations interns and graduates in India for the first time for 2026, and the opportunities are immense. You could join the India team shaping our local launch, or contribute to global projects, from building our lending products in Europe, to designing UX across 40 countries, to developing AI-driven fraud detection.

Whether your impact is local or global, Revolut India is uniquely positioned to be a foundation for ambitious careers.

Can you share a bold career choice you made, and how you navigated the uncertainty?

Leaving a successful banking career in 2010 to join a tech startup. Back then, payments on mobile phones didn’t even exist. It was terrifying to walk away from stability for the unknown, but it became the defining choice of my career.

What gave me strength was a beginner’s mindset. I allowed myself to be the one asking endless questions, absorbing everything like a sponge. The skills I’d built in banking, problem-solving, storytelling, consumer insight, I transferred into a new context.

What’s one core principle that has guided your career?

Relentless curiosity. It’s the engine of growth. Asking “why”, about customers, processes, regulations, or outcomes, leads to deeper understanding and innovation.

The best problem solvers I know share this trait. With curiosity, you’re not just doing a job, you’re building a career.

How can ambitious students and grads apply this principle?

Think of yourself as a sponge. Be curious in your classes, beyond exams. Take internships in fields that spark your interest, not just what’s easy.

Have real conversations with people you admire, face to face, not just online. Dig deeper into topics, because the real prize is never on the surface.

And look beyond your own industry. If I’d stayed only within banking, I’d never have built this career. Staying curious about the world around you creates opportunities for bold moves.

Finally, what advice would you give those applying to the Rev-celerator Programmes?

Don’t just send a CV. Do your homework. Understand what we’re building, see if it resonates with your passion, and let that passion shine through.

We’re looking for problem solvers and builders with fire in the belly. Let that come through in your application. Grades and degrees matter, but mindset matters more.

Paroma’s career is proof that bold choices, relentless curiosity, and a willingness to build are what turn jobs into extraordinary careers. For students and graduates, her message is clear: the future belongs to those who are fearless, curious, and ready to shape what comes next.
